A Modern Mobile Maintenance System with Anywhere Connectivity
Monkton’s EdgeMX is a simple, intuitive end-to-end solution that securely brings the entire maintenance lifecycle to the iPad, iPhone, Apple Watch, and Apple TV.
EdgeMX enables maintenance supervisors, quality assurance, supply shops, and maintainers to rapidly document, communicate, and operate in sync by combining Edge Computing and Cloud Native technology on modern mobile devices with smart-driven workflows to streamline the entire maintenance line.
Communicate without constraints
Military and federal agency maintenance procedures have seen little improvement since the 1980s. Sadly, paper forms often still serve as the backbone of government operations.
As an example, the United States Air Force uses two maintenance systems that were built in the 1980s and run on desktop computers. Add in maintainer time wasted waiting for tools, parts, and assigned work, and it’s easy to see why an update was critical.
EdgeMX brings the power of mobile devices to the maintenance depot, flight line, back shop, ship—anywhere your people need to get work done.
Everything… everywhere… all at once.
EdgeMX is a Cloud Native, Edge Capable self deployed SaaS that runs on iPhones, iPads, Apple TVs, and Apple Watches. With the tap of a button—similar to ordering groceries from your phone—parts can be ordered, QA can be approved, and maintenance documented in real time. What’s more, EdgeMX can be used in classified environments.
EdgeMX lets you ditch paper processes because it works anywhere, with or without connectivity and even in environments where wireless isn’t available. It allows disconnected operations to continue untethered and uninterrupted, be it in a war zone, a base with limited network access, or during a Wi-Fi outage following a natural disaster. This Edge-first mentality also enables more connected (LTE/Wi-Fi) mobile capabilities to work, tapping into the use of mobile devices in online and offline scenarios. The EdgeMX app is also underpinned by Zero Trust to authenticate every transaction, meaning it’s incredibly secure.
How EdgeMX works
With EdgeMX, maintainers can easily request supplies as they’re working—and view real-time availability. (Note that depending on the request, a supervisor may need to approve). As soon as a request is made, supply shops are automatically notified, while maintainers are alerted when the request is complete. From there, an expeditor or maintainer can fulfill the request.
Automate processes to save time
By automating processes and integrating them into existing parts and tool databases, supervisors can also schedule work multiple days out, which saves significant time and headaches.
Federate data in real time
EdgeMX can federate data in real time to other EdgeMX deployments, as well as traditional DoD systems—including BLADE, IMDS, GO81, AMBS, and JADC2—which facilitates rapid decision making.
Learning from the past to chart the future
EdgeMX is based on Monkton’s work with USAF Headquarters Air Force A4 and USAF Reserve Command A4. We built a revolutionary mobile app that allowed maintainers to document maintenance at the point of repair using iPads. This saved every maintainer one to three hours each day and provided a return on investment of $8,500 per user, per year.
We took everything learned from that effort and developed a slew of new tools and solutions that allowed us to build a new maintenance solution from the ground up using the most modern technologies and concepts available. EdgeMX is built for the future and informs artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to make capability decisions.
Connect anywhere your mission takes you
EdgeMX works online, locally, or in contested environments.
With any Edge Computing device, including the Amazon Web Service’s Snow series of Edge Computing devices, EdgeMX can be deployed anywhere—on a base with no cell coverage, 200 feet underwater, or on a carrier in the middle of the ocean.
In the case of interrupted connectivity, the Edge server can collect data and transfer it back to the primary cloud when connectivity is reestablished.
End-to-end compliance
EdgeMX leverages iOS devices that have undergone NSA NIAP validation and is capable of passing NSA NIAP Validation, which Monkton has previously accomplished.
EdgeMX in AWS GovCloud leverages all IL-5 and FedRAMP HIGH services, and is eligible to deploy into IL-6 environments. In the cloud, EdgeMX runs in a multi-region configuration, meaning all data is replicated between two AWS GovCloud regions at all times for hot failovers. EdgeMX will run on any Edge Computing device that supports its runtime requirements and adheres to federal government standards.
How you get there: Security first
How you access and store highly sensitive information is critical. Your data should pull more than its weight—it should be better, faster, smarter, and more efficient.
Similar to how we access data in our personal lives, EdgeMX enables data access at the point of repair. Whether the desired outcome is to view, generate, collect, store, act on, analyze, or distribute, EdgeMX supports an instantaneous publish/subscribe model used in modern Software as a Service (SaaS) Application Programming Interfaces (API).
